Respite Care
A supportive break for adults and their families
Respite care provides short-term support for adults who need a safe, structured, and comforting place to stay. It offers people an opportunity to enjoy a change of environment with personalised support, while giving families and carers the chance to rest, recharge, or focus on other responsibilities. Respite stays can be planned or urgent, lasting from a few days to several weeks, and they play an essential role in maintaining the wellbeing of both the person staying and the people around them.
Our Respite Care at The Byre and The Pad
Our Respite Care at The Byre and The Pad offers a welcoming, safe, and homely environment for adults who benefit from tailored, person-centred support. Both services provide short stays that balance comfort, independence, and meaningful activity.
Who Our Respite Service Supports
Respite stays are ideal for:
- People who want a short break with support that reflects their needs, preferences, and routines
- Families and carers who need temporary time away from their caregiving role
- Individuals transitioning between care settings or exploring new support options
The Byre – Nature-led, person-centred short breaks
Located beside a working farm in Caerphilly, The Byre offers personalised respite care in a calm and homely setting. Adults staying with us can enjoy therapeutic outdoor experiences, animal care, sensory activities, and meaningful engagement with nature. The service supports adults aged 18 and over, including people with learning disabilities, autism, complex communication needs, behaviours that challenge, and sensory or emotional support needs.
The Byre’s layout is designed for comfort and accessibility. With spacious shared areas, a fully equipped kitchen, and three large bedrooms, two with en-suite bathrooms and one with a walk-in wet room, every person has the space, privacy, and reassurance they need.
Our support focuses on independence, emotional wellbeing, communication, and confidence-building. We use Active Support and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) to help each person enjoy a structured, empowering, and positive short break.
