The Farm

At Partnership of Care, we’re proud to offer a unique farm experience located alongside our respite services at The Byre and Pad 1 & 2. The farm is not part of the respite itself, it’s a dedicated space open to anyone we support, whether living in our residential homes, supported living services, or accessing respite care. Here, individuals can enjoy meaningful activities, connect with nature, and interact with a variety of animals, all of which help promote wellbeing, independence, and confidence.

Our farm provides a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment where individuals can enjoy meaningful time away from their usual routines, while feeling valued, respected, and empowered.

What We Offer

Our farm experience is more than just a place to visit, it’s a space to connect, learn, and grow. Through hands-on activities and interaction with nature and animals, we promote confidence, independence, and wellbeing in a relaxed, natural setting.

Each visit offers

  • Purposeful, hands-on activities tailored to individual abilities and interests
  • Opportunities to care for animals, including feeding, grooming, and cleaning
  • Gardening and outdoor tasks, such as planting, watering, weeding, and litter picking
  • Sensory engagement with nature and animals to support emotional regulation
  • Flexible routines designed to reduce anxiety and support independence
  • A calm, open environment that feels natural, welcoming, and non-clinical

Our Approach

Individuals engage in everyday, meaningful activities in a less structured, outdoor environment. Our approach encourages learning through doing, fostering a sense of achievement while allowing people to work at their own pace.

  • Person-centred support: Activities are adapted to each individual’s abilities, interests, and sensory preferences
  • Building confidence and independence: Clear, manageable tasks allow individuals to succeed and take pride in their achievements
  • Connecting with nature: Time spent outdoors and with animals supports relaxation, focus, and emotional wellbeing
  • Skill development: Participants learn practical life and work-related skills through routine farm tasks
  • Social engagement: Shared activities provide natural opportunities for interaction in a low-pressure environment

Why The Farm Makes a Difference

Spending time in a farm environment offers unique benefits that go beyond traditional care:

  • Therapeutic animal interaction: Gentle contact with animals promotes calm, reassurance, and emotional connection
  • Sensory experiences: Natural sounds, smells, and textures provide grounding and stimulation
  • Predictable routines: Structured farm tasks help reduce anxiety and encourage consistency
  • Achievement and growth: Completing tasks and caring for animals builds self-esteem, problem-solving skills, and independence

The Benefits of Working with Animals on your Mental Wellbeing

Spending time at the farm offers more than physical activity, it provides therapeutic benefits. Interacting with animals can reduce stress, anxiety, and isolation while boosting emotional well-being. Feeding, grooming, and caring for animals encourages mindfulness, purpose, and positive routines.

The farm hosts pigs, alpacas, donkeys, goats, geese, chickens, sheep, and rabbits, giving opportunities to build confidence, improve social skills, and foster a calming environment. Studies show animal-assisted activities can lower cortisol, lift mood, and support gentle physical exercise. For those we support in residential homes, supported living, Day Care or respite care, the farm offers a safe, nurturing space to experience these benefits.
