Supporting Adults with Sensory Impairments

At Partnership of Care, we are committed to supporting adults with sensory impairments, including individuals who are registered blind, have visual or hearing impairments, or experience sensory processing challenges. Sensory impairments affect how people interact with and experience the world, so our approach is inclusive, respectful, and tailored to each person’s unique needs.

What Are Sensory Impairments?

Sensory impairments impact one or more senses, such as sight, hearing, touch, taste, or smell. These challenges can make everyday life more complex. People with sensory impairments may:

  • Find bright lights or loud noises overwhelming
  • Need support to understand what’s happening around them
  • Use alternative communication methods like sign language, pictures, or assistive technology
  • Require help with mobility and orientation to navigate safely
  • Need accessible information formats for better understanding

Sensory impairments can occur on their own or alongside other conditions such as autism,  learning disabilitiesor physical disabilities. We support individuals with single or multiple sensory impairments, including those with complex needs.

How We Support People

Our goal is to create inclusive environments and provide tools that help people feel safe, understood, and empowered.

Our support includes:

  • Accessible communication – sign language, visual aids, speech devices, and written materials
  • Sensory-friendly spaces – calm areas with soft lighting and minimal noise
  • Personalised care plans – tailored to each person’s sensory profile and preferences
  • Mobility and orientation support – guiding techniques and assistive technology
  • Highly trained staff – skilled in sensory awareness and inclusive communication
  • Collaborative care – working with families and specialists for consistent, effective support

We focus on helping individuals build confidence, make choices, and enjoy meaningful experiences every day.
